Job 6:8 Oh that I might have my request; and that God would grant me the thing that I long for!

Oh how Jesus loves us. He is ever interceding on our behalf.

Rom 8:34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

Heb 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

So many times we carry burdens that could simply be lifted from off of our shoulders if we would only give it to the Lord.

1Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Phil 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

Eph 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Our Heavenly Father wants us to take our burdens to Him in Jesus' name and leave them at His feet. He cares so much for us. We, many times try to solve

our problems on our own and end up in a worse state than when we started. If we would only say, "Lord, I give this problem to you. You are the only One who can solve this. You are the Only One who can heal me and help me and deliver me."

1Thes 5:17 Pray without ceasing.

1Peter 4:7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

Luke 18:1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

Mark 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye

pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

John 16:23-24 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

Sadly, we sometimes do not do these things and God is just waiting for us to call on Him. Next time you find yourself in the midst of a problem, call on Jesus. Pray to the Heavenly Father in Jesus' name to help you. He most certainly will. No problem is too small and no problem is too big.

Psalm 34:4 I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

Psalm 86:13 For great is thy mercy toward me: and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell.

Isaiah 55:6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:

Psalm 145:18 The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.

Psalm 86:7 In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.

Psalm 118:5 I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and
set me in a large place.

Psalm 102:2 Hide not thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble; incline thine ear unto me: in the day when I call answer me speedily.

We can take our little problems to the Lord as well. We all encounter difficulty on a weekly basis and even though we may think our problem is so frivolous that we care not to bother the Lord with it, God is concerned for us. He wants to help us on our daily journey through this life. He wants to help us and give us strength and wisdom. He wants to heal us. He wants to take our hurts away.

Psalm 91:15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

Oh how the Lord loves you and me. Take every care to the Lord no matter how small...no matter how great. He is always listening and He always answers prayer.

Psalm 50:15 And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.
If we pray according to the Father's will, in Jesus' name, He hears us.

1John 5:14-15 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask

any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

Psalm 22:5 They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.

Don't forget to thank Him and praise Him when He helps you and answers
your prayers. For He most certainly will! Amen!

Psalm 105:1 O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known
his deeds among the people.

Psalm 18:3 I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

Isaiah 25:1 O LORD, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth....Isaiah 25:4 For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall...

Let us always remember that THE LORD is forever on our side. We need to seek Him and pray to Him and ask Him for help...ALWAYS!

Make Christmas Affordable

CBNMoney.com – The most miserable walk in the world is the one many of use make in late January carrying the mail back to the house from the mailbox looking at all those bills. What makes it even worse: A lot of those gifts were for people we only halfway know, and who have either already returned the gifts we bought, or have given them to someone else! But there you are stuck having to make payments for the next year. Bad plan.

Many people spend more on gift buying than they can afford. There are probably several reasons for this: First, some folks, who don’t have written monthly budgets, simply don’t realize how much they’re spending for gifts. Second, there are lots of people who would rather spend themselves into the poor house than to let their “friends” know they have financial limits. Third, there are a lot of people who really don’t know how to give gifts without spending money.

It’s this third group that I want to direct some ideas to in this section. First, understand that we give gifts to people whom we love—and, who love us back. By definition, these people care more about the giver than the gift. They don’t care what you spend. They care about you. For people like this, it really is the thought that counts. Maybe you’ll find some good ideas below:

Give gifts that you make yourself. If you have a garden, why not give fruits, vegetables, or flowers? If you cook or bake, why not give something from your kitchen? Personalize your homemade wonders by dressing them up with pretty ribbons and bows. Make a homemade label and hang it from a string. Attach a poem. Give “designer jars” of cinnamon sugar mix, pasta samplers, or homemade candies. Make it special.

Give your time. Even if you don’t make a product or craft, time is one thing you can give to others. The most valuable commodity any of us have is our time. Each one of us has 86,400 seconds in our day. The question is, “Who will we share our time with?” One of the best gifts we can give is a gift that represents our time. Why not give a certificate to a young family that can be redeemed for an evening of babysitting?

Save money on gift-wrapping. One of the costliest parts of giving a gift can be the wrapping. Why not use the Sunday newspaper comic pages? It’s a colorful, fun, whimsical way to wrap a present.

Give personal gifts to family members. In our family, it’s not unusual to get a certificate entitling the recipient to a 30-minute back massage. You could give “chore certificates” where the giver promises to wash dishes, make beds, mow grass, etc., for the recipient.

Give “talent” gifts. My son Joshua is a fabulous artist. In the past, he has given his drawings as gifts. If you write poetry, why not a special verse for a friend? If you sing, why not present a special song for the guest of honor at the birthday party?

Romantic gifts for husbands and wives. The great thing about being married is that you can give your lover special gifts that are both personal and romantic. Why not candle light, beautiful music, and a review of your wedding album—just before bed? Have you ever surprised your spouse (isn’t that a wretched sounding word for someone you love?) with breakfast in bed? If eating out is too costly, why not a late night cup of coffee in a quiet restaurant? Oh well, you get the point. Be imaginative.

A Serious Plan for Holiday Savings

Now, I’m going to suggest something that not many of you will be willing to do. But, for that minority of you who try this—the savings may surprise you.

Why not celebrate holidays like Christmas and Valentine’s Day a few days late? Think about it. When do the really incredible Christmas sales usually begin? December 26, right? So, why not agree to have your family Christmas celebration on New Year’s Day? That way you could do your shopping and decorating starting the day after Christmas. The Christmas tree lot would probably give you a tree just to avoid having to throw it away. The decorations will be reduced. And gifts in the stores will be on sale. What a deal! Of course, if you can’t bear the thought of not celebrating Christmas on December 25, you might consider giving gift certificates that can be redeemed on merchandise after it’s on sale.

Now, if all of that seems a little too extreme for your taste, maybe you wouldn’t mind to celebrate a holiday like Valentine’ Day a day or two late. (Have you ever noticed how much a heart-shaped box of chocolates goes down in price right after Cupid leaves town?)

Here’s an Old Trick

Always buy a year ahead. Buy seasonal merchandise like gift wrapping, decorations, and ornaments immediately after a holiday is over. Frequently, stores offer huge discounts simply to avoid having to warehouse their stock for another year.

Get up and keep going

In an earlier entry, I told the story of Jesus and His disciples and the storm they encountered.

Listen, storms will come in life. It’s not a matter of if but when. Quite frankly, you are either pulling out of one or eventually headed toward another.

Now I hope that does not cause you to be disillusioned, because as I said in my earlier entry, “Better to be in a storm with Jesus then anywhere else without Him.”

One of the readers of this blog commented on that post and wrote:

A series of misfortunes have chased me down over the last week or so. I got so down. The one thing that keeps me going is knowing that I’m called for a purpose in Christ. When I decided to log in after not reading your blog in a while, I read your words: “It’s better to be in a storm with Jesus than anywhere else without Him . . . ” I nearly fell off my chair.

Thank you.

That is one of the reasons the storms and trials come. To make us stronger spiritually. Because in a storm, a trial, or a hardship, you will learn things you could really learn nowhere else.

It has been said, “Fruit does not grow on mountaintops, but in valleys.”

Paul and his storm

Toward the end of the Book of Acts, Paul was making his final journey to Rome because he had appealed to Caesar. As they journeyed, a horrific storm overtook them and everyone despaired for their lives.

Dr. Luke describes it this way: “When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days and the storm continued raging, we finally gave up all hope of being saved” (Acts 27:20 NIV).

The Lord came to Paul

But the Lord sent His angel to speak to Paul, giving the apostle the ability to encourage the others on board:

But take courage! None of you will lose your lives, even though the ship will go down. For last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me, and he said, ‘Don’t be afraid, Paul, for you will surely stand trial before Caesar! What’s more, God in his goodness has granted safety to everyone sailing with you.’ So take courage! For I believe God. It will be just as he said.” (Acts 27:22-25 NLT)

There will be smooth sailing

That is not to say we will not have beautiful moments, and even seasons of relative calmness. Not all the winds that blow in life are devastating. In one instance, the log of the journey before the big storm hit says, “The south wind blew softly” (v.13 NKJV).

Thank God for those times when the “south wind blows softly.” Those times when you can feel the warmth of the sun on your shoulders and all is well.

But it is important to remember that there is always a storm ‘a comin!

People think that when you are in the will of God, you will always have “smooth sailing.” That is certainly not true of Paul. He seemed to face every kind of adversity imaginable. He had enemies who tried to undermine and even destroy him out of jealousy.

God never abandons us

He had numerable setbacks in life that included beatings and physical harm. He also had a personal physical disability he prayed to be healed of that never left.

Still, he was able to say, “We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed and broken. We are perplexed, but we don’t give up and quit. We are hunted down, but God never abandons us. We get knocked down, but we get up again and keep going” (2 Corinthians 4:8-9 NLT).

Hello...Hello...Hello...I guess no one is home, Ive been trying to express my feelings and have a weekly link for food for your soul. Have you ever been sooo disappointed with people? Well I'm the opposite this week. I have found myself in a curious position. The rain is gone and i see clearly. I'm tired of be defensive and ready to be sorry. I have a news flash for you all! I WAS A JERK, I could stand here and tell you all about the others involved being JERKS along with me but that's their ball and chain. I know that i was the opposite of a christian, i know that I tried to buy friends, I tried to get my fathers approval by employing him helping him make more money or doing what ever he said. I had a two best friend's that said "We are brothers I will always be by your side." and I promised the same. Well fruits of a true friend yield fruit. There are fruitless fruit trees. I now am at peace of whatever happens to me. If I hurt you directly or indirectly I'm sorry! Sometimes sorry isn't enough, but I know that Jesus is. You see Jesus has slapped me across the head and said be free from guilt and anger and revenge. I can never obtain true forgiveness or peace without forgiveness. So if you are reading this and you have hurt me, I forgive you!

We all have the desire to be Hero's and some of you are Heroes. But reality is we can all be heroes. There are many hurting people, many sad or desperate people in this world. Start with an act of forgiveness start with some love. Hate is nothing to take to the grave with you. The journey is hard but worth it. I'm growing everyday closer to Christ. You can too.

Choices we made 5 years ago effect us today. Choices we make today will effect us tomorrow or years down the road. I was told by a wise Christian brother he said, "You didn't dig this hole over night...You won't fill the hole overnight." That's just great I preached on this blog how we are forgiven today...right now. Well we are forgiven today this instant but we need to work on broken relationships and bad reputations. Our character is made by our decisions. I'm thankful that I have realized how important integrity is 35 rather than 55. I want to be know as a man of God a "good person". I want to stand in front of my creator and him know me by name. I want him to be familiar of our daily relationship. If you have regret in your life you must place it at the feet of Jesus.

You need to change your entire daily life now! Once you carry the title of Christian you must act like a christian. Its unfortunate that most people don't trust Christians because of the hypocrisy most so called Christians show. I don't want to be a stumbling block for new believers. I'm still a sinner and will always be a sinner but I ask for forgiveness for my thoughts daily. Please don't ever feel you are following me.

You need to follow Jesus, I will disappoint you I will never hold up to your expectations. I will assure you that I will try and lead and live the best life I can. Just ask God to come into your life right now. I know your hurting. I have a BF that is hurting, he is living a lie, he is sacrificing his eternity for people who could care less if he burned in hell! They only care about themselves. Don't continue one more day! Make a stand today.

Make your family a priority live for his kingdom not the earthly kingdom "man" has promised. I can guarantee that you will find unspeakable peace if you do. I love you and want whats best for you and your family. Its never too late. There is a marriage fiesta this weekend, Friday and Saturday. It will heal broken relationships, strengthen strong relationships. Its God, Wife, Family (Kids), Then others. Its very clear what we should be doing.

Happy Columbus Day!!!!

Lets remember this weeks important lessons, as we grow the more we give our lives over to God. He is the Alpha and the Omega! The beginning and the End. I serve a great and mighty God. What do you do with your problems? We frankly speaking if it wasn't for God I would have taken the swan dive off the I-40 bridge! Talk about trouble and issues. Its very clear that we need to have faith in our maker. If we say we believe and then fall apart every problem then maybe we aren't true believers or Christians. We need warriors of Christ who when they wake up the devil says: "Oh CRAP he's up!" What do you want to be remembered for? Our failures and sins don't have to define us. If that was the case then I would have "LOOSER" permanently tattooed on my forehead. Now I sleep knowing that if I was to die I would go to heaven... Peace! I don't have to do life alone. I have my Shepard with me; all ways! Every step I take he is with me.

Life is very strange, it seems that if we would just do what God wants from the beginning then we could avoid problems. Its very strange but when I went to Jail it was the biggest blessing that has ever happened to me in my life. I changed everything about me, my friends my thinking and asked Jesus for forgiveness. I know there are some people that might not like me but just remember that its not about me. Its an audience of one! I all about him. I never intentionally meant to hurt anyone but things seemed to unravel due to my guidance of my partner and my own personal stubbornness. I thought that I could make changes and decisions about life on my own... How wrong I was, You must go to Jesus everyday. I pray for people that have intentionally hurt me and people that have spread venom via the Internet. I now have left vengeance to God. These people will have to answer for their actions someday. As for me I'm sorry if I have hurt anyone ever, family, friends, employees, or associates. I truly tried to help people. I tried to be a good man, but I was doing it as my own Shepard. Obviously I failed! If you have failed or are hurting, remember Jesus died for you. If you are reading this you must ask yourself "If I die tonight am I 100% positive I'm going to heaven?". If not just repeat this prayer out loud:

Heavenly Father:..........................................................................

I come to you in prayer asking for the forgiveness of

my Sins. I confess with my mouth and believe with my

heart that Jesus is your Son, And that he died on the

Cross at Calvary that I might be forgiven and have

Proverbs 15:14 tells us that if we have God's understanding, we can ask Him for the knowledge to overcome every trial and problem we face. God is bigger than our grief, sorrow, pain and every problem that any of us could face. We must never blame Him for our troubles, as the devil is the trouble maker, not our Lord. God is there for us, to help us overcome anything the enemy has done, or is trying to do. God is the one that will rescue us and help us in our hour of need. However, we must not be like the fool who feeds on his folly. This is a person who is continually mouthing his troubles and blaming others, including God, for his circumstances. He feeds on self-pity and rehearses his problems to all who will listen. We must give our heartaches and troubles to God and keep a cheerful attitude no matter what is going on in our lives. We need to remember, "this too, shall pass" as God is eternal and has a good plan for our future.

As Christians, death is the last enemy we face, as we have the assurance that we shall see all of our loved ones who have died in Christ once again. The devil may have snatched them off this earth, but because they belong to God, He snatches them from the devil and takes them home with him. We will be reunited with them. That shall happen when we get to Heaven, or when Christ comes again to this earth and brings them with Him at the resurrection. We are not like those who have no hope. In Christ, our future is full of His promises and we are promised victory over death and the grave!

What are you planting?

Every action you take is a seed you sow, and every seed you sow is a harvest you'll reap.

Have you ever had a thought like this: "Nobody would ever notice"? Or this: "It's just a little thing"? But to God, every action -- big or small -- is important, because every action you take is a seed you sow.

For example, say that you tell your boss you worked eight hours when really you only worked six. But on the other hand, it's only two hours, and "nobody will ever notice." However, you're sowing seeds of dishonesty in your life that will reap a harvest of the very same thing.

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. (Galatians 6:7-8) Don't think that you can lie to someone (i.e. sow a seed of dishonesty), but yet expect to reap a harvest of truth in your life.

Proverbs 22:8 warns that He who sows wickedness reaps trouble.

Therefore, be very careful about how you act in every area of life, because every action you take is a seed you sow, and every seed you sow is a harvest you'll reap.

You'll never change your life until you change your choices.

If you want something in your life to change, then you'll have to change your choices and actions. That is because doing the same thing will never get you different results.

In other words, what you do -- the choices you make, the way you treat people, the attitudes you have -- all impact your life. If, by your actions, you're sowing bad seeds, then you'll reap a harvest of those things. 2 Corinthians 9:6 says, Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.

Therefore, if you want to reap abundant harvests in your life, start sowing abundant seeds. That may require changing your choices; but until you change your choices, you'll never change your life.

GOOD NEWS JESUS DIED FOR OUR SINS AND IS WILLING TO FORGIVE US OF OUR SINS. JUST PRAY A SIMPLE PRAYER...

How shall we speak to you

from our smallness and inconsequence?

Clay Balls

A man was exploring caves by the seashore. In one of the caves he found a canvas bag with a bunch of hardened clay balls. It was like someone had rolled clay balls and left them out in the sun to bake. They didn't look like much, but they intrigued the man so he took the bag out of the cave with him. As he strolled along the beach, he would throw the clay balls one at a time out into the ocean as far as he could. He thought little about it until he dropped one of the balls and it cracked open on a rock. Inside was a beautiful, precious stone.
Excited the man started breaking open the remaining clay balls. Each contained a similar treasure.
He found thousands of dollars worth of jewels in the 20 or so clay balls he had left. Then it struck him. He had been on the beach a long time. He had thrown maybe 50 or 60 of the clay balls with their hidden treasure into the ocean waves. Instead of thousands of dollars in treasure, he could have taken home tens of thousands, but he just threw it away.

It's like that with people. We look at someone, maybe even ourselves, and we see the external clay vessel. It doesn't look like much from the outside. It isn't always beautiful or sparkling so we discount it. We see that person as less important than someone more beautiful or stylish or well known or wealthy. But we have not taken the time to find the treasure hidden inside that person by God.

There is a treasure in each and every one of us. If we take the time to get to know that person, and if we ask God to show us that person the way He sees them, then the clay begins to peel away and the brilliant gem begins to shine forth.

May we not come to the end of our lives and find out that we have thrown away a fortune in friendships because the gems were hidden in bits of clay.

May we see the people in our world as God sees them. (end of story.)

Jesus came in a meek and lowly form so it shouldn't surprise us that most of His treasures are hidden in obscurity, out of sight to the proud. “ God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6)

The fact that Jesus Christ was resurrected from the dead through the power of the eternal Spirit of God, sets Christianity apart from all other religions of the world.

THIS SINGLE EVENT PROVES THE VALIDITY OF CHRSTIANITY!

Atheists say He was a myth.

New Agers say He was a guru mystic

Moralists say He was a good moral teacher

Muslims say He was a prophet – as well as Mohamed

Mormons say he was one god among many.

But Christians declare Jesus Christ to be the one true God, by whom salvation has come to all mankind… proven un-disputably by the resurrection from the dead.

The prophetic record:

Paul the apostle wrote: “For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures. 1 Cor 15:3-6

Centuries before the time of Christ, the prophets foretold the very manner of death Jesus would suffer, describing in detail the roman style of execution by crucifixion, long before the roman cross was ever in existence. Both prophets David and Isaiah at different times, prophetically described in detail the death He would suffer.

Psalm 22:14-18 prophesied: “I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted away within me. My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in the dust of death. Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me. They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.”

Isa 53:3-5 prophesied “He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.”

The prophetic record also indicated that he would not remain in the grave but be raised from the dead after the third day. (see Ps 16:9-11; Isa 53:10-11; Hos 6:2-3; Jonah 1:17; Matt 12:39-40) IT HAD ALL BEEN PLANNED BY GOD from eternity past and predicted in the prophetic Scriptures.

stock.xchngThe religious leaders of the day actually thought they finally solved their dilemma about Jesus. They had Him killed. But there were still rumblings and talk that He had predicted He would raise from the dead on the third day. So the Pharisees conscripted Roman soldiers to stand guard over His grave. There were no mistakes. There was no secret body-napping. Who would dare try to steal a body out from under the noses of these dreaded Roman warriors. Never-the-less, come Sunday morning, the tomb was empty.

Rumors began to spread that the tomb was empty. The rumors became reports and the reports began to be substantive and verifiable enough to be called evidence. All that would have had to happen to successfully squash this fledgling movement of Christianity would have been to produce a dead body. But it was never found. He rose from the dead!

There were also hundreds of eye witnesses of the risen Christ Jesus. Included among them were family, friends, followers and even enemies.

He appeared to Mary Magdalene. (John 20:11-18)

He appeared to the other women of His company (Matt. 28:9)

He appeared to Peter. (Luke 24:34)

He appeared to two other disciples on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-15)

He appeared to His core group of eleven disciples. (Mark 16:14)

He accommodated doubting Thomas and showed him His wounds. (John 20:24-29)

He showed up in His old stomping grounds of Galilee. (John 21:1)

He appeared to a group of 500 at one time. (I Cor. 15:6)

Even after His visible ascension to heaven He made at least a few more visits to planet earth to reveal himself to Saul of Tarsus, (1 Cor. 15:8) and to the apostle John (Rev. 1:12-17)

The profound affect of His resurrection upon the life of these witnesses is, itself, a testimony to the fact of the resurrection.

To His followers, His very public trial and degrading public execution by Roman soldiers meant their dream had ended. The grand adventure was over. Their hopes of a new life were dashed and their behavior showed it. They were fearful, discouraged, and were ready to go back to their old life.

Only a real encounter with a resurrected and living Jesus would have the kind of affect that would cause these timid and defeated followers to become the courageous leaders they became. They would make all manner of sacrifice and even suffer persecution and martyrdom for a cause they KNEW was true.

The fact that this small group of believers changed the world, split the calendar from BC to AD, and started a movement that has grown into the largest and continuously fastest growing religion in the world, (currently with approx. 2 billion followers world wide) is an additional proof of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? … It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? … For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Rom 8:31-39

Morale in Economically Challenging Times

Even in times of economic distress, it's important to provide employees with acknowledgment for work well done. In fact, it's probably more important in economically challenging times to make sure that well-deserved "pats on the back" are given to honor work well done.

Within organizations, other than monetary compensation at review time, there are many other ways that leaders, managers and supervisors can increase job satisfaction for the staff as a whole and keep morale from sagging unnecessarily.

Of course, monetary compensation goes a long way toward addressing job satisfaction (particularly in time of economic distress. But, what to do when money is tight and pay-outs may even be decreasing?

It's then worth focusing on psychological and symbolic (yet meaningful) rewards. Those intangibles that can go a long way to making employees feel good about their job and their accomplishments.

What sorts of things fall into this category?

Thank you notes, letters or certificates of accomplishment, complimentary words spoken in private or at employee meetings, recognition lunches, gift certificates, and so on. These sorts of small rewards, when given in a serious and heartfelt way, can have a bigger impact than you might imagine.

ACTION ITEM: Think about who's been doing a good job in your area. Focus on when they've most recently been complimented or rewarded. Consider whether now is the time to do something to acknowledge those who are helping your organization achieve success.

In other words, people who hurt others with their actions and words are people who are hurting inside themselves! When someone lashes out at another person, they are expressing their hurt in a destructive and irresponsible manner. Feelings of hurt and pain are normal parts of everyday life. Therefore, it is important to find solutions to our problems that are constructive and responsible in order to enjoy the pleasures that life has to offer, as well. Feelings never tell us what to do. They only tell us that something requires our attention. So negative feelings can play a positive role in our lives. We must put ourselves in control of the painful emotions rather than be controlled by them. The first step in taking control is to ask the question, "What is causing these feelings?"Sometimes the cause of the feelings is from recent events. Other times, the cause is a manifestation of negative emotion from long ago-unresolved issues of adolescence. Take the time to ask the question, think, and seek answers.

This is important whether you are the one who is angry or the one who is on the receiving end of an angry person's wrath.

If you are angry and find yourself hurting others, here are some things that should help you deal with your feelings in a more constructive way:

1. Be mindful that you are entitled to the full range of feelings that life has to offer, one of which is pain. Make up your mind that you are not entitled to hurt others with those feelings. It is normal to feel pain. It is unacceptable to inflict it.

2. Take note of what makes you want to act ugly, sullen, and resentful. Is there a pattern? Do your assumptions about people and life need adjustments so that you're not so upset by (often unrelated or minor) irritants?

3. Remain current with your feelings and needs. Don't put off taking care of yourself. Feel pain, acknowledge it, and search for solutions. Reactions that are solution-oriented help you find good ways to deal with hurt.

4. Change you attitude about hurt. This allows you to avoid hurt in the first place. By this, I don't mean you should avoid things that make you feel bad. Adopt a personal policy not to let negative emotion control you. When you decide to take control, pain can't fester into an uncontrollable monster.

5. Don't choose the pain. I hate to say this, but some people hurt, because they choose to hurt. They decide that something is worth suffering over and believe that they need to "dwell here now." That's not to say that you should no longer discriminate between right and wrong. However, be more discriminating about that on which you're willing to expend mental energy.

6. Approach people and situations with patience and understanding. This causes you to slow down and act less impulsively. Imagine that a child spills milk at the table and an adult goes bonkers. The adult hasn't stopped to think about the fact that when children are growing up, the latter are clumsy at different developmental stages by nature, and that the spilt milk was not intentional or the result of laziness.

7. Look for non-destructive ways to express your anger. Being current, as previously mentioned, is one way. Others include, but are not limited to, taking slow deep breaths, biting your tongue, holding in your stomach, counting to ten, meditating, contemplating and praying. All of us do better when we control our impulses when expressing anger. If you're someone who finds yourself in a hurt person's line of fire, you need some tools to manage their feelings as well as your own.

Some options include:

1. Let them vent. Listen to their frustrations before you speak or act. Never interrupt, because until you hear their story, you know nothing. Find out as much as you can about the source of their pain and you'll know why they're angry.

2. Assess your level of responsibility in causing their pain. If you are directly involved, take responsibility and make things right. However, often you will find that you are not the target or cause of the pain. If you were just in the right place at the right time, don't take it personally.

3. Adopt an attitude of forgiveness. Try to understand that when people are hurt, they don't always think clearly and they say things that they don't really mean. It's easy to be consumed with reciprocal anger, so avoid the urge by forgiving them.

4. Be mindful of how you respond to them. The goal is to make things better, not worse. Sometimes they just want someone to acknowledge their pain. You can do so by saying something like, "I don't know just what to do to help you right now, but I want you to know how sorry I am about this."

5. Take control of your own feelings. Don't give up your power to them by allowing their words to control the way you respond. Their pain, even when directed at you, does not define you. Hurt people can only hurt others if allowed to do so.

With adults, know that you can judge the size of a person by the size of the things that they allow to make them angry. Yes, we've all had initial feelings of hurt as the result of others' actions and words. But, when we take a moment to really look at the situation, all of us have the power to draw the line and refuse to accept another's hurt.

Remember that people say and do boneheaded things from time to time without thinking. People forget, lose their tempers, underachieve by our standards, break promises, cheat, lie and do other things that disappoint us.

Make allowances for people's differences. Human beings make errors. Values amongst us are varied. If you keep your standards very high, you are subject to be more sensitive around people with low standards.

If you have low standards, you will feel offended and slighted by those who have high standards.

That said, the bottom line is this: when someone is hurting someone else, they are acting from a place of pain and hurt. Diminish the hurt to make room for enrichment. Instead of hurt people hurting people, you then have enriched people enriching people.

Listed below are ten things you can do to become a better manager. Pick one. Do it today. Pick another one for tomorrow. In two weeks you will be a better manager.

1. Select the best people As a manager, you are only as good as the people on your team. Give yourself a better chance to succeed by picking the best people from the start.

2. Be a motivator Human beings do things because we want to. Sometimes we want to because the consequences of not wanting to do something are unpleasant. However, most of the time we want to do things because of what we get out of it.

It's no different at work, people do good work for the pay, or the prestige, or the recognition. They do bad work because they want to take it easy and still get paid. They work really hard because they want to impress someone. To motivate your people better, figure out what they want and how you can give that to them for doing what you want them to do.

When I seemed to be getting nowhere in [one spiritual] battle, I finally cried out in desperation, "Lord, what and how am I to pray for my enemies? Those beloved ones who slander me and the work you've given me to do?"

Several days later, as I was praying, [God gave me a blueprint for prayer in this situation.] It contains sound principles that everybody seems to need once the battle is joined:
Pray that the eyes of all who surround these persons be opened to see the situation as it really is.

I'm sure everyone is guilty of one or two of these things, accidentally, over the course of their lives - what really gets my back up are the chronic offenders - and if you think about it, you probably know who you are...

1) Loud, Pompous "Conversation"In bars and restaurants especially, while waiting for the film to start, or during the show or concert, I don't particularly care to hear your conversation - with or without cellphone. And please, don't just automatically join in MY conversation, unless I'm making eye contact.

2) Badly behaved childrenWith their parents or without, toddlers throwing a fit in the grocery store or teenagers shooting BBs at the back of the house and the local bird population, children should be better behaved. They should show some respect for adults and private property, for other children, for animals and for public decorum - and their parents should take some responsibility for their children's actions.

3) Taking up spaceIn the store, on the sidewalk or on the road, some people think they need to take up the whole aisle, the whole sidewalk or the whole lane. There are other people out there in the world, and MOST people aren't the center of the universe - please move over for the rest of us.

4) Cellphones - Part 1When you're driving, you should drive, not have one hand on your coffee cup and one hand holding your phone or walkie-talkie to your ear. Pay attention to the road and pay attention to the other vehicles - if the conversation is that important, pull over and pay attention to the caller.

5) Cellphones - Part 2If you are talking to a person, and your cellphone rings, can't you at least excuse yourself or let me finish my sentence, before you take the call? And if you have voice mail, and we're having an important discussion, do you really have to answer the phone?

6) TailgatingI hate tailgaters, especially when I'm doing the speed limit in an area known for enthusiastic policing. It's not only dangerous, it's irritating - and unnecessary. And if you are that late for work, maybe you should get up earlier.

7) Forgetting the pooper-scooperI have dogs and when we go for a walk, there's always a plastic bag or two in my pocket. It's only polite and it's only hygienic. Please don't leave your dog's business on the sidewalk, on my yard or on anyone else's yard other than your own.

8) LitteringThis isn't just about the McDonald's bag, the soft drink bottle or candy wrapper. I pulled into the parking lot of the local grocery today and there was a pile of cigarette butts beside my door. Our neighbors have dumped their building rubble over our common fence (they dumped deer entrails too, but that's another story). An empty lot I pass on the way to work contains a variety of old, soggy looking furniture carcases. Take responsibility for your trash.

9) Bad ParkingThere are lines people! Just like we colored in the lines in our coloring books, we should be able to park are cars in the lines too. And this includes "parking" shopping carts in the parking lot - not in the middle of the aisle or the last space in front of the door.

10) Those loud boom-boom car stereosThe absolute top of my list is the car stereos that are all bass and make your windows rattle. Living on the path from the low-rent apartments to the all-night party store, this is something we get to hear frequently - even at three or four in the morning.

Life would be so much better for everyone if we were all a little bit more courteous and conscientious. As you go through life, think about how your actions effect others and I will do the same. And maybe we will all be a little less annoyed....

Its funny there is a guy who is obsessed with me and my blog. If only people would look at the motives and not the hype. Why is he obsessed with me? He is determined that the more he tries to focus on me the less he has to focus on himself. I truly mean that i hope he finds the power of Christ. I'm telling all of you who read this there is am unexplainable peace that God gives you when you are living life for him. I have made plenty of mistakes and feel bad if I have ever hurt people. I just know that i serve an awesome God. His ways aren't my ways. I truly want to make peace in my life. There are several accusation against me that I am confident the truth will be reviled. I might have to suffer in order to help. If God intends for me to go through trial and tribulation in order to fulfill my purpose then I will happily surrender. God bless you and give a loved one an extra kiss tonight. Put aside your differences and allow God to heal your hurts.

Top 10 Ways to Ensure Success With Your Resolutions

It has been said that 60-80% of New Year's resolutions will be broken within the first two weeks. Personally, I am not a huge advocate of New Year's resolutions because I believe in setting and achieving personal goals all year around. However, I do respect the fact that New Year's resolutions are very popular, and I understand that the New Year is a very logical time to start fresh. That being said, I wanted to share with you the top ten ways to increase the likelihood for success with your New Year's resolutions.

1. Stick to 1 or 2 important goals. Having a laundry list of all the things you would like to change in your life can be overwhelming. Your chances for success are much higher if you stick to 1 or 2 of your most important goals. This allows you to concentrate all your energy and focus on these goals. Once you achieve those goals, you can always set 1 or 2 more.

2. Be realistic. It's okay to think big and want the best, but it is more important to succeed, so be realistic. Ask yourself whether or not your goals are reasonable and possible. It is probably not realistic to set the goal of never yelling at your kids again. How will you feel about your resolution when your children test you on a very bad day and you yell? Certainly one can cut back on yelling and work to find alternative ways to deal with misbehavior, but an all or nothing attitude may set you up for failure, and feeling like you've failed can set you up for more failure. Instead, accept and honor your humanness.

3. Be specific.Be as specific as possible when determining goals. Articulate how you will measure success and exactly what you are trying to achieve. Making a resolution to lose weight is too general. A better choice would be to set a specific and manageable goal. For example say, "I will lose 25 pounds by June 30, 2006." Be specific when answering the what, when and how.

4. Connect to your motivation for achieving your goal. Why do you want to achieve this goal? Why now? Make sure your motivation comes from your heart, and not from your head. In other words, your goal should be something you really desire, and not something you know you SHOULD do. Really connect to why this is so important to you. Pay attention to whether or not you are being driven by fear or love. Beware of setting goals based on what someone else in your life thinks you should do. Your resolutions should come from your authentic self.

5. Examine your belief in your ability to achieve this goal. What do you believe about your ability to achieve your New Year's resolutions? If you have tried to reach the same goal many times before without much success, your confidence could be wavering. You could be feeding yourself negative messages without even realizing it. Be conscious about positive thinking. Remind yourself that you are capable of doing anything you set your heart to. Tell yourself every day that you have the ability to take the steps it will take to reach your goal.

6. Create a detailed plan to achieve your goal. Let's say your resolution is to eliminate the clutter in your home. But how will you start when the clutter is overwhelming? It may be helpful to break large goals into intermediate, manageable steps. Make a list of each area you need to tackle. Then break each area into even smaller segments that can be tackled easily. For instance, set time aside to clean out old clothes, then to organize sweaters, then to throw out old shoes, and finally arrange clothing by color or type. Don't forget to specify a time limit for accomplishing each of the smaller steps. Before you know it, the larger goal will have been met.

7. Recognize that you may encounter obstacles. Most people give up on their goals because they run into some type of obstacle along the way. Obstacles can be internal or external. Examples of internal obstacles include negative self-talk, limiting beliefs and discipline issues. Some external obstacles are the lack of time, money or resources. Know in advance what hurdles you may have to conquer.

8. Identify a plan of action to overcome obstacles. If you are trying to give up chocolate (I would never try this!), what are you going to do when you get a craving for chocolate, or when all your friends are chowing down on chocolate cake? Maybe your plan would be to carry a sweet substitute with you at all times. Or perhaps you could involve yourself in a fun activity when the urge strikes. If your obstacles are tougher and you need more support, consider hiring a life coach to help you work through your blocks.

9. Enlist the support of an accountability partner. As you work towards your goals, it can be very helpful to have someone in your life to be your support partner. Consider asking your partner or friend to help you stick to the resolutions you have set. Use this person when you are struggling and set up a plan to check in regularly with him/her. As a coach, I have the privilege of trading coaching services with my peers. My coach helps me achieve my goals, overcome any obstacles, and celebrate my success.

10. Celebrate success along the way. One of the most important things you can do for yourself is celebrate your small successes as you work towards your larger goals. Don't wait until the end to reward yourself. You deserve to be recognized for your efforts and your commitment, especially when your goals take a long time to achieve. If you don't celebrate on your journey, you will lose your motivation. So celebrate, celebrate, and celebrate!

If you fall off your path, remember you can always get back on. It's okay to take a few detours. No one said there can't be St. Patrick's Day resolutions, Easter resolutions, or even Independence Day resolutions.

Oklahoma 'Hip Hop Cops' Rap Messages to Kids

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. -- A duo of Broken Arrow police officers is taking a new-school approach to an old-school message to keep kids off drugs and warn them about talking to strangers.
For the past few months, the Hip Hop Cops, made up of officer Ezell Ware and officer Greg Fall, have gone to several Broken Arrow and Union schools to give students the law enforcement talk about safety. But as the lecture gets going, they suddenly break into a rap.
"It actually started off as a joke," Fall said.
It began when the two officers were at a school giving the safety speech when one of them began rapping about staying off drugs.
The next event was at a child-care center and Fall began "beat boxing" while Ware rattled off short, four-line rhymes about the dangers of drugs.
They evolved what had been a joke between them into a performance.
"It stemmed from there," Fall said.
The four-line raps have been expanded into whole songs, and the Hip Hop Cops call out for audience participation.
"We get them pumped," Fall said. "We've gotten good feedback from a lot of kids."
The performance gets the kids involved, active and paying attention to the message, the officers say.
"The kids, they love it," Ware said. "They think it's real cool. We started doing it at day cares and it blew up from there."
Lisa Ford, crime prevention specialist for the Broken Arrow Police Department, said the officers have become local celebrities among elementary students.
As other officers and detectives come across kids during the course of their work, they have been asked if they know the Hip Hop Cops, which shows the impact of the message being delivered, Ford said.
"It's catching on," Ford said. "The kids have just grasped onto the Hip Hop Cops. They're sending a message, a positive message, and doing it in a cool way."

Why Do Bad Things Happen to Good People?

I’ve found that when most people ask this question, there’s a hidden personal pronoun in it. It usually is “Why do [you God, let…] bad things happen to people?
It’s an accusation we bring to God, sometimes because we don’t understand, but most usually when we are experiencing an acute pain in our life…a relational hurt; a physical problem or illness; maybe even a painful circumstance, like being falsely accused, blamed, fired, or generally put upon.
You get the idea. Now, let’s take the most gut-wrenching example, the death of a child, and see if together we can’t make better sense of why God would allow the bad to exist.
Why would God allow that? Why would God allow a child to lose his or her little life? From God’s perspective, that life is not lost. God is able to restore to that child their life, so no loss is suffered on the part of the child. Life is not lost to the One who can restore it.
What about the grief that parents and family experience? In our loss, the presence of God is available for us to experience His strength, His comfort, His sustaining love and assurance in the face of the evil that exists. God sustains those who grieve for those He calls to Himself.
What about the skeptics, who wonder how a loving God could allow such a thing? The taking home of a child to be with God can awaken in the most hardened of skeptics the moral reality of God. In asking “How could you God?”, it presupposes a moral authority who chooses the “hows” of life, the “hows” that it works by.
So whether it’s the child, family or skeptic…all have a witness of the reality of God. The existence of evil points to the reality of a God who can overcome even the bad. And we’d want no less a God.
My hope is that in asking this question, you will find His the comfort of His presence breaking through the hurt to reveal the love of His Son Jesus right where you are.

In those jurisdictions which retain the concept of a felony, the serious criminal offence would be a felony; those jurisdictions which have abolished the concept of a felony often substitute the concept of an indictable offence, i.e. an offence which requires an indictment.

Well we talked to Mr. Baca about these charges and he responded. "Its unfortunate that a local business owner and purchaser of my accusers company could manipulate he system enough to for me and my family to have to defend ourselves in the criminal judicial system. I'm sure that lady liberty will be fair and just. There is so much more to this case that will be layed out to a jury. However, since my primary audience is potential DS applicants, here is the original post minus a very small number of comments that some may feel skirt OPSEC issues. Several years ago, one of my colleagues made an outstanding post chronicling his experiences as a new DS agent. Now that a new application period is upon us, I feel it might be useful for potential applicants to hear just what life is like out in the field office. For those of you in the pipeline, hopefully this serves as a source of motivation for you.Much has already been said about the BSAC training program, so I’ll be focusing only on those things that I have experienced since coming to the field office as a sworn agent. I came to the New York Field Office just 7 months ago.One of my first assignments was protecting of foreign ambassadors who had traveled to New York for the Republican National Convention. The group had come to see “democracy in action” and they certainly did – pushing crowds and egg-throwing protestors.Shortly after the RNC, preparations were being made for the United Nations General Assembly. Fortunately, there are a number of good-natured agents in the office who were willing to share their experience with me. I had numerous meetings with reprensatives of the visiting country,. I assisted their staff with scheduling events, ensuring that enough time was given for movement through the congested streets of Manhattan and that security needs could be met. I did a TON of paperwork. I was constantly handling last minute schedule changes, coordinating visits w/ he Secret Service, etc. In the end, the detail went well and it was a total rush. I was glad to have put in so much effort before hand.Not long after UNGA, I was the lead advance for a visiting offical from Europe. Drawing from the lessons I learned during UNGA, I expected things to go off without a hitch. That’s when I learned then how much a nations culture could impact how we conduct security for them. Last minute schedule changes were frequent – sometimes they would change their destination in the middle of a movement - making my life pretty difficult. The lesson there was simple – no two details are ever the same.Many more protective details followed. Though being an advance agent is a good job, I found it was sometimes nice just to work a fixed midnight shift. Standing “halls and walls” might sound boring, but sometimes boring is good.Late in 2004, I was assigned to work on the Secretary of State’s protective detail for about 30 days. My first day down in Washington was the day Powell publicly announced his resignation and press were everywhere. The next thirty days would prove to be interesting. And then on New Year’s Eve, I drove the limo for the Secretary and his wife when he visited the Big Apple at the mayor’s request to drop the Ball in Times Square. I couldn’t believe the responsibility that had been granted to me. I knew Secret Service agents who had been on the job much longer than me who hadn’t seen anything but a stairwell.Later, I would accompany our new Secretary of State to India and South Korea. In India, I fought off a nasty stomach bug and, consequently, missed the opportunity to dine with the rest of the detail in a palace as Dr. Rice was in a meeting. We had the wildest movements in New Delhi where the local police did virtually nothing to control traffic as we sliced through the city. We literally dodged everything from sacred cows, chickens, and rickshaws, to bicyclists with five gallon drums of propane strapped on the back of their bikes. What an experience!Well, if you’ve made it this far, you’ve noticed I haven’t said a word about criminal investigations. It’s no accident. I don’t believe the agency’s philosophy places any greater importance on protection than investigations – both are important. However, when a protection tasking comes down from DC, it must be done. Despite the frequent protection assignments, I’ve had the opportunity to do some interesting things on the investigative side. I’ve lead an investigation into a major conspiracy with multiple defendants; I’ve done surveillance and monitored a a buy; I’ve executed search and arrest warrants. However, these things are the exception, rather than the rule.To sum it up, in the past seven months I’ve seen and done a lot of things many people will never see or do in their lives. I’ve walked the halls of some of the most protected institutions in this country and others; I’ve met prime ministers and foreign ministers from just about every continent; I’ve had dinner in a private dining room with a Vice Prime Minister and his family; I’ve raided a Brooklyn flop-house packed with smuggled men, women, and children; I’ve worked with third world security agents from around the world with bad suits and worse teeth; I’ve found the best hot dog in NYC and am still searching for the best burger; I’ve worked with some of the most dedicated and professional agents in our Government (and one or two real a**holes); I’ve visited four foreign countries and drank some form of alcohol in each that I had never previously heard of (at times to my detriment); and for the first time in my life, I come home almost every night loving my job. Not many days pass where my fellow agents and I don’t look at each other in amazement and ask, “Can you believe we get paid to do this?”DS has been the right choice for me and I can't imagine working for another agency. Sure, there have been times of frustration. Every agency will have its share of frustrations - travel vouchers not paid, poor managers, bureaucracy, conflict with co-workers, etc. Your attitude toward your job is more important than all of those things and will greatly impact your ability to succeed and enjoy the great opportunity you have been offerred.I hope all of you job seekers find the right fit for you. Police Buy Military-Style Sonic Devices

With the help of Homeland Security grants, police departments nationwide looking to subdue unruly crowds and political protesters are purchasing a high-tech device originally used by the military to repelbattlefield insurgents and Somali pirates with piercing noise capable of damaging hearing.
Police acknowledge that they deployed the so-called Long Range Acoustic Devices (LRADs) as a safeguard at recent political conventions,protest-plagued international summit meetings and this summer's volatile town-hall meetings on health care.
Officers were captured last week on video using the devices against protesters at the Group of 20 summit in Pittsburgh, causing many tocover their ears or disperse to escape the shrieking sound.
San Diego-based American Technology Corp. insists the devices it manufactures and sells are not intended to be used as sonic weapons but rather to influence the behavior and gain compliance from people.
But the company stated in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing in September 2008 that the device is capable of sufficient acoustic output to cause damage to human hearing or human health, expressing concern that its misuse could lead to lawsuits.
It is that fact that has health and civil rights advocates concerned that the devices could fall into untrained hands and cause physical harm.
Police should not be using military weapons that are likely to cause permanent hearing loss on demonstrators or anyone else, said Vic Walczak, legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania who objected to the Pittsburgh police's use of the device.
The dish-shaped device generate tones that are higher than the normal human threshold for pain, according to the device's own data sheet. They can be aimed in a narrow beam at specific targets with what the company has described as extreme accuracy.
The American Tinnitus Association said Wednesday that protesters at the G-20 summit were acoustically assaulted with sound of over 140 decibels, which it described as like the kind of sound pressure members of the armed services might face from an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
The association said that at 130 to 140 decibels, damage to the ear can be instantaneous, adding that the 145 to 151 range of the LRADSis the kind of sound that can cause tinnitus and hearing damage immediately. Tinnitus is a condition that causes ringing in the ears, sometimes permanently.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has said permanent hearingloss can result from sounds at about 110 to 120 decibels in short bursts or at 75 decibels with long periods of exposure. The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders said regular exposure of more than one minute of 110 decibels can result in permanent hearing loss.
The U.S. military has used the devices successfully since 2003 andthey have been available domestically since 2004.
The purchase of LRADs by police agencies in the U.S. is approved by the Homeland Security Department, making the departments eligible for millions of dollars in federal grants. Federal and state officialssaid the grant money is turned over to the states, which decide how to spend it.
Homeland Security officials said they don't have a list of the lawenforcement agencies that have obtained LRADs through its grant programs because the money is administered by the states.
Authorities in California, where at least five police departments have acknowledged having the devices, said information about the locations of devices was not readily available and it would take several days to compile.
American Technology declined a request from The Washington Times to identify which police departments have purchased the devices, but its most recent SEC filings show sales are rising. In the first nine month of 2009, sales of the device generated $12.8 million, a 74 percent increase over the same period in the previous year, the filing stated.
The first acknowledged public use of the LRADs in the United States occurred at the G-20 meeting in Pittsburgh, during which police activated one of the devices to disperse what they said were protesters seeking to march without a permit on the city's convention center.
The dish-shaped device was mounted atop a military-style police vehicle and the piercing sound it emitted caused the protesters to stop, cover their ears and back up, at which time they faced nonlethal tear gas, rubber bullets and stun grenades.
Other law enforcement agencies will be watching to see how it was used, Nate Harper, the Pittsburgh police bureau chief, told reportersat the time. It served its purpose well.
More than 190 people were arrested during the G-20 demonstrations.No serious injuries were reported.
American Technology spokesman Robert Putnam said the company's LRAD system was successfully deployed by Pittsburgh law enforcement agencies to support their peacekeeping efforts at the G-20 summit, but hedenied that the devices are weapons.
There's no truth to the claims that these devices are 'death guns'or 'sonic cannons,' and the only people saying that are those who have not experienced the LRAD themselves, Mr. Putnam said. They are communication devices and their point is to communicate with people who are not interested in complying with lawful orders.
He said the LRAD enabled law enforcement authorities in Pittsburghto communicate clearly with an unruly crowd at a safe distance to peacefully resolve an uncertain situation without injury or a loss of life on both sides of the device without resorting to the use of nonlethal or lethal weapons. He said the device was used to deliver critical information, instructions and warnings.
Mr. Putnam said LRADs can cause damage to hearing if used improperly or if you stand in front of it for several minutes, but he said American Technology trains those who purchase the devices.
He said law enforcement personnel have full control of the audio output through a prominently positioned volume control knob and that the broadcasts can be easily and quickly adjusted based on their intended use.
We give them instructions. We give them training. We give them a manual, he said. It needs to be properly used and we do what we can toeducate the people.
When pressed about guarding against potential harmful effects, he said, Put your fingers in your ears.
The company has said the devices are intended to be used for only a few seconds at a time, and that there should be no lasting effects from brief exposure. Mr. Putnam said the devices can broadcast up to 152 decibels at a distance of three feet.
Raymond DeMichiei, Pittsburgh's deputy director of emergency management and homeland security, said he thought the devices worked well without hurting anyone.
Every police officer I talked to thought it worked famously, said Mr. DeMichiei, who ordered the devices for Pittsburgh. "The bottom line is we could maintain order with the protesters without hurting them.
It is designed to get people to do what police want. It makes themuncomfortable but does not hurt them, he said, noting that Pittsburgh police had been trained to use the devices properly.
Mr. DeMichiei said his office first began looking at the devices when it learned the G-20 was coming to Pittsburgh and the city wanted a less aggressive means to control protesters.
He said the city and Allegheny County each bought two - a large and a small device - for use by their SWAT teams. The devices were purchased with a $101,000 Homeland Security grant, approved by the state of Pennsylvania.
In addition to Pittsburgh, the devices previously were set up - but not used - by police in New York City during the 2004 Republican National Convention, put in place last month during at least two healthcare town-hall meetings in the San Diego area and were at the ready for police in Miami in 2003 for a free-trade conference in that city.
The devices, described by the company as nonlethal weapons, are now in the possession of police agencies across the country.
We think the use of the LRAD devices to gain control of the publicis inappropriate and excessive, said Kevin Keenan, executive director of the ACLU of San Diego. "They can cause severe damage to people'shearing but, as importantly, they represent a degree of police control that is borderline science fiction.
Do we want to live in a society where police use military-style weapons to stifle public dissent? Mr. Keenan said. The main effect of having those weapons at public events is to chill people and chill free speech and free association.
The San Diego County Sheriff's Department had LRAD devices ready to control crowds at separate Republican and Democratic town-hall meetings last month - one in Spring Valley, Calif., hosted by Rep. Susan A. Davis, California Democrat, and at a later town-hall session in Vista, Calif., co-hosted by Reps. Duncan Hunter and Darrell Issa, California Republicans.
The LRAD in San Diego was purchased for $31,000 by Sheriff WilliamB. Gore with a Homeland Security grant as a means to issue safety advisories, warnings and other emergency-related notifications, according to a department bulletin.
Joe Kasper, spokesman for Mr. Hunter, said the congressman was notaware of any type of technology being used at the event but, in thisparticular case and in similar situations, he said it was "entirely reasonable to question the practicality of LRADs.
Of course, the town halls that occurred across the country differ from the G-20 in size and scope, so there might be better reason to position LRADs, Mr. Kasper said. "Law enforcement always stands to benefit from more advanced equipment but, regardless of the system, these tools should be utilized in a manner that is both safe and responsible.
More importantly, there are certain systems that should only be used when absolutely necessary, he said. But in San Diego, where a couple hundred residents turned out to talk health care on a Saturday morning, it's hard to understand why these resources would ever be needed.
The devices were initially developed for the U.S. Navy after the USS Cole was attacked in October 2000 in the Yemeni port of Aden - killing 17 U.S. sailors and injuring 39 others. LRADs are now deployed by the U.S. Navy, Army, Marines and Coast Guard. In addition to keeping operators of small boats from approaching U.S. warships, they are being used to disperse hostile crowds and ward off or control potential enemy combatants with earsplitting noise in a directed beam.
Dubbed the Sound of Force Protection in a company brochure, the devices have been used by troops in Fallujah, a center of insurgency west of Baghdad, and other areas of central Iraq to deal with crowds inwhich lethal foes intermingle with civilians.
The devices can broadcast sound files containing warning messages or can be used with electronic translating devices for what amounts to narrowcasting, in which specific groups are targeted.
If crowds or potential foes don't respond to the verbal messages, company records show that the LRADs can direct a high-pitched, piercing tone with a tight beam. Navy News has described the devices as being louder than a jet engine, saying they overwhelm their targets withsound so loud they hear it inside their heads.
LRADs also have been used by cruise ships and freighters to repel attacking pirates off the coast of Somalia, using narrow-beam sound waves with great clarity at 150 decibels - about 50 times the human threshold of pain - and short bursts of intense acoustic energy that can incapacitate people within 1,000 feet of the device.
The Department of Homeland Security also has put the LRAD technology to work in securing the nation's borders, according to its Web page, providing the devices to the U.S. Border Patrol to give agents theability to communicate with persons at a long distance and to do so in any language.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokeswoman Jenny L. Burke saidCBP has tested the LRAD but has not seen that the device is a highlyeffective tool for securing the border in most operational situations encountered. At this time, she said, the agency is not looking at expanding its use.

Most of us have lied at least on more than one occasion. From telling your sibling you didn’t break their favorite toy as a child, to the white lie you told your roommate about the disappearance of their leftovers, we have all experienced the act of lying in order to save ourselves from the uncomfortable world of confession.

On a small-scale, most lies may be harmless and will not cause continual damage; however, the habit of lying can become very destructive if this technique is applied in larger, important areas of life.Lying can be a result of a poorly developed social skill; it is simply a weak attempt to gain something from another, and a poor choice for communication.

Regardless, it is a skill deployed by many, and just as with any habit, will perpetuate itself as the liar continues to reap ‘benefits’ from their behavior and actions. The truth behind most liars is their ongoing commitment to maintain either a façade, cover another lie, and basically save themselves. Lying is a selfish attitude, and not many people can, or will, put up with it for long. Even the best liars do get found out, and will need to brave the outcomes of their ‘hard work.’ Depending on the skill level of the liar, there are some key characteristics and traits that are identifiable for most.

It may not be easy, but learning to spot a lie or liar will save you a tremendous amount of energy, personal anguish, and create a positive space for you and your life.

Here are ten key traits of a liar:

1. Limited or no eye contact. We are all social animals, and we naturally do not make eye contact with people or things that we may feel are not aligned with what we are saying or doing. This is more apparent with the liar; he or she is benefiting from not looking directly at you, either looking away, or looking distracted more often than not.

2. Small pupils. Our pupils dilate when our brains either look or perceive something nice, beautiful, and held clearly within our ‘mind’s eye.’ This is why people with ‘fire in their eyes’ are often described as such as they are literally looking at a people are lying, their pupils will contract as it takes concentration and hard mental work to put the words together without a truthful scenario or event behind them.

3. Crossed arms or legs. This is a defensive pose, and is a natural protective measure that screams ‘keep away.’ Body language is a key part of detecting a liar, and can speak for itself.

4. Talking too fast. This can be a key trait of a liar, as they are trying to breeze through the information and hope you will follow their lead. Sometimes there is truth behind it; the easiest way to find out is to calmly interrupt them and ask them to repeat it. If they are fumbling, or cannot recall what they just said, it’s a clear indication that they were making it up while speaking, or do not have their facts/ideas in order.

5. Being overly friendly. This can take many forms, and is definitely a part of guaguing someone’s personality. On a most basic level, this person is trying to make them like you so much that you’ll believe anything they are going to say. Use your discretion when it comes to this area!

6. Nodding their head opposite to what they are saying. Most liars do this subconsciously, and will shake their heads ‘no’ when they are saying yes, and vice versa. This is often subtle, but can be picked up fairly easily.

7. Hands up to the face or mouth. Most liars will use this subconscious body movement as they are likely anxious, and uncomfortable while ‘speaking’ their lie.

8. Changing subjects frequently. This is a signature trait of a skilled liar, as they do not even want you to elaborate or ask questions about a specific item or something they have just said. Instead, it is easier for them to ‘flit around’ from subject to subject or idea, and limit elaboration at all costs.

9. The liar will try and word out contractions (e.g. I am not, vs. I’m not) This may be a difficult thing to pick up depending on how they ‘normally’ talk, but often a liar will go to extreme lengths to be very specific and almost technical with their words. It’s carefully sound out each detail! Liars will also not use “I” or “me” very often, as it just might be too painful for them to relate their words with themselves.

10. Liars will look down when communicating. This is not only a natural response to shame, but is a way for them to ‘weave’ the lie that doesn’t really exist as truth in their mental picture. The blank ground helps them literally put their words together with few distractions. People who tell the truth, on the other hand, will ‘pull’ the ideas literally above their heads, looking around, and making strong eye contact with you while they are describing their story. Most actions and behaviors of the liar are subtle, but they can be found ina variety of settings, conversations, and communications.

You'll always need to use your best judgment of the situation, but when your gut instinct gives you the 'danger' sign, listen to it! You'll be better off in the long-run by knowing what to look out for, and really thinking about those red flags in any type of relationship. Unfortuantely, most liars will continue their habit until a major catastrophe or life-changing moment occurs; if they have developed this skill over others, it will simply create difficulty for themselves and socially in the long-run. Do be weary of your interactions, and learn to identify this trait if needed!

I know it's hard to believe, given all the negative news about the economy, but people are swarming to the house-buying market. You've heard plenty about the housing bubble bursting, but that means that home prices are both more affordable and more reasonable since the adjustment. There is also the current interest rate market, which is still at or near historical lows. This means people can get more house for the same payment. The last reason the market is picking up is that the US Government is giving an $8,000 tax credit to first time homebuyers.
So, with the house market becoming more attractive, it seems appropriate to offer a little review of mortgage terms and options. If you are considering buying a home, you need to ensure you understand what is reasonable versus unreasonable and required as opposed to desirable.
Types of Mortgages
The housing bubble was blamed partly on some of the exotic types of mortgages that are available. These allowed people to buy more house than they normally could afford, driving up demand and prices. But not all mortgages are a road to ruin. Below are the most common types of mortgages, as well as comments on their appropriateness and analysis of their costs (assuming a $150,000 mortgage):
15 or 30 year fixed rate: this is the traditional mortgage. The interest rate is locked in for the life of the loan. This means the rate is not the lowest available on the market, but it cannot change on you... ever. Your monthly payment is fixed for 360 (or 180) months. With rates so low today, you should think long and hard before signing anything but one of these. A 15-year mortgage saves tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars in interest, but has higher monthly payments. Most financial gurus recommend a smaller house paid for in 15 years rather than a larger house bought in 30. For example, a 15-year fixed rate is about 4.75% interest rate now, or $1,167 a month; 30-year at 5.35% is about $838 a month. But the 30-year loan will cost you an extra $90,000 over time.
ARM, or adjustable rate mortgage: this mortgage will give you the lowest monthly payment... for now. An ARM uses a lower interest rate than the traditional mortgage, but that rate will change regularly. You can get a one-year, three-year or five-year ARM, which means that the interest rate will be fixed for that span of time, while the payments are calculated on a 30-year basis. After the fixed time span expires, the interest rate will adjust every year based on a market rate, called an index. Your interest rate is normally the index, plus a percentage. An ARM will frequently have a maximum that it can increase in any one year and over the life of the loan. These loans are great as long as interest rates stay low... but when they start to climb, your monthly payments go up with the rates. For example, you could start with a monthly payment as low as $674 at 3.5%. If the index rate climbs two points a year and can max out at six points over your starting point, your monthly payments could almost double to $1,261 at 9.5% just three years after your lock expires. These loans caught many Americans last year, as rates went up and payments skyrocketed. People failed to budget for the higher rates, and foreclosures followed.
Interest-only mortgage: this mortgage has the lowest payment of them all, because you are not repaying any of the loan. At 5.35%, your monthly payments would only be $669 on a 30-year basis. That means that every month, you are paying $669 to the bank to live in your house and not getting one penny richer in the process. You still owe the bank the entire $150,000 that you borrowed. That isn't too big a problem if house prices go up; but when they drop and you cannot sell the home for what you owe, that's a giant mess, as you are on the hook for the difference.
Five-year or seven-year balloon mortgage: this mortgage is a mix between an ARM and a traditional mortgage. You get a lower interest rate with a balloon mortgage, and it is priced as if you are paying for 30 years. However, at the end of the balloon period (five or seven years), you have to repay the entire amount remaining on the mortgage. For most people, that means taking a new mortgage at the interest rates prevailing then. Again, with rates at historic lows, this will probably result in higher payments when the balloon is refinanced. If you are confident that you will be moving in less than five (or seven) years, you can benefit from the lower rates since you will be financing a new house anyway.
Fees
There are a number of fees associated with a mortgage. Some of these petty fees can add up so pay attention. You will have to pay for a title fee, courier fee and credit report. There will be a closing fee, paid either to a title company or an attorney, which compensates that party for completing and filing all of the appropriate paperwork. You will also have to buy title insurance. This insures the bank in case there is a problem with the title, such as a mechanic's lien, that means the bank cannot take the house back in case you stop paying your mortgage. Keep in mind, the policy is only for the bank; if you want title insurance also (protecting your investment) you need to buy an additional policy.
You will also have to pay some sort of "origination fee." Sometimes, these are called by other names, but they all amount to the same thing: profit for the lender. The origination can be based on "points" or a fixed amount. Points for origination are a percentage of the mortgage's value. For example, a half-point origination on a $150,000 mortgage is $750 in fees. Don't confuse these origination fees as the points normally shown on mortgage ads in the paper. Paying points on the mortgage reduces your interest rate, as you are essentially prepaying part of the interest. Paying points lowers your monthly payment, which can be helpful if you have saved properly to pay for the fees and down-payment.
If at all possible, you want to put 20% down on your house. This exempts you from PMI, or private mortgage insurance. PMI is a fee you pay that again insures the bank in case you stop paying, or default. It helps ensure that the bank will not lose money if they repossess the house and sell it at auction.
Many of these fees are fixed and non-negotiable. However, you can save some money by trying to negotiate certain bank charges, such as the credit report, courier fee, etc. You can also find your own title insurance and title company (or closing attorney); the mortgage company is not particularly inclined to find the best price since you are paying the fees anyway. It's a little extra work, and may save you a few hundred dollars, so youll have to decide if the effort is worth the time.
One last note on fees: your mortgage company would love to roll your fees into your mortgage. This sounds great to you, as it lowers the amount of cash you have to pay when you sign for the mortgage. Avoid this like the plague. If you put all of these costs into the mortgage, you will be paying interest on this amount for 15 or 30 years. The mortgage company will emphasize that it only raises your monthly payment by a few dollars, but they don't point out that you will pay thousands more in interest over the course of the loan.
Conclusion
While there are a number of mortgage options, for most of you the best option is a 15-year or 30-year fixed mortgage. Rates won't get much lower than they are today, so you are getting a good deal. While some markets may make it too difficult to get a decent house on a 15-year mortgage, if you can survive with the payments and house, you are better off with the 15-year mortgage. As you save for your house, remember to have a 20% down payment to avoid PMI and remember to save extra for all the associated fees.

Two Texas Officers Shot During Search for Burglar

EL PASO -- Three police officers searching a Lower Valley home for a burglar Saturday morning were caught in a hail of gunfire that left two with non-life-threatening wounds.
The alleged gunman, identified by police as Mauro Sergio Nares, 38, was caught by other officers at the scene as he tried to escape from the home at 9921 Moses. As of Saturday evening, the names of the wounded police officers had not been released.
Nares has been charged with three counts of criminal attempted capital murder and was booked into the El Paso County Jail, said Darrel Petry, a Police Department spokesman.
"They're a decent family," said Ricardo Salcido, who said Nares and his parents live in the home. "But Mauro, he's not there sometimes."
Police first responded to a burglary call at 7:21 a.m. and met with Nares' parents, according to a police account of the incident. An inspection of the house revealed no burglary. Police received a second call that someone was illegally entering the home and returned at 7:46 a.m.
The three officers searching the home entered a hallway when Nares allegedly opened fire with a handgun from a back bedroom.
One officer ducked into a different bedroom, avoiding injury. The second turned to find cover and was hit by a bullet in his left side. The third was struck by two bullets in the upper shoulder area.
"Officers were able to get out of the home," Petry said. "The suspect fled out the rear and was captured."
The officer who was shot in the shoulder had surgery to remove a bullet lodged in his back and was recovering in a hospital Saturday evening, Petry said. He has been with the Police Department 16 years. The other wounded officer, who has been on the force for nine months, was treated and released, he said.
"Somebody from inside the home made the (911) calls, but we don't think it was the parents," Petry said.
Pascual Nares, the suspect's brother, said late Saturday that it was his brother who called the police and thought the officers were intruders when they arrived the second time.
Pascual Nares said his brother loaded a .22-caliber weapon and fired through his room's door and then dropped the weapon when he realized they were police officers.
Salcido, who grew up on the block and was visiting his father Saturday morning, said he has known Nares for about 25 years and considered him a friend. Nares helped his mother and father financially for many years, he said.
"He got his mom sofas, got his mom a big television," Salcido said, and added that Nares also paid bills. But lately, Nares had been unemployed and asked him to get him drugs, Salcido said. "I think he got paranoid."
A section of Moses, on both ends of a curve where the home is located, was blocked off well into Saturday afternoon. Most of the nicely maintained homes in this lower-middle-class neighborhood have rock or brick fences with metal gates. The wide roads had light residential traffic Saturday morning.
Neighbors standing on their lawns watching the police activity said it was normally quiet.
Alex Chavez, 13, who lives in a house across the street from the Nares' home, said the family often threw parties.
Occupants of one car turned away by police said they were relatives expecting to attend a party at the home, where they planned to watch the boxing match between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Juan Manuel Marquez.
"I'm going to be afraid to be in this neighborhood now at night," Chavez said.

WOW Shame on you Rob Hamic!

This is one of the many emails we have recieved in the past few days! We cant post all of them but...Here is an interesting good one!
Dear NMSC,
This is getting really old!!!!!!!! I am tired of Mr. Hamic posting all this negative stuff about Security Companies!!!!!
Who is this man trying to fool. The only thing he is succeeding in is making himself look foolish! Why would this man do this?
Maybe cause he has nothing to lose?
He thinks this kind of activity will get him business? he likes trying to hurt other people?
Its unfortunate to have these kind of people in the Security industry. I have had the opportunity to talk with other owners, who know Mr Hamic.
I have yet to hear anything positive about him. He talks about companies on his website, yet he is the biggest offender!
How can you put stuff on the website about companies taxes, yet you have numerous Federal Tax Liens against you ($500.000) yes, Five Hundred Thousand Dollars!!!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!
From what I understand Mr. Hamic, you lost the majority of your business in Albuquerque. Why? I believe it was your illegal tactics!!!!
Mr Hamic, you made your bed in this Industry and your reputation is NOT GOOD!!!!!! quit trying to hurt other companies, because you failed. Robb's last company was sued over sixty times in a five year period! yet he tries to expose other companies! I recently read that Mr. Hamic was not able to get licensed in Texas. Why?
I have a really good idea why. Correct me if i am wrong, doesn't his Website say he has offices in El paso and Austin? oops i am sorry, he does have a main office in Austin, a Quick Stamp!!!!!! LOL.
Mr. Hamics Resume that he sent to the state (RLD) says that is company (Everest) protected over 300.000 residents in Albuquerque back in 2002. Does anyone know how many people lived in Albuquerque in 2002? Can you say Liar!!!!!!!
It also goes on to say that they had over twenty million dollars in collection accounts, can you say LIAR!!!!!!!!!!
It gets better, He also performed thousands of Investigations. Again, can you say LIAR!!!!!!!!!
I saved the best for last. Mr Hamic is a Veteran (ARMY), he also from what i understand, carries a Disabled Veterans Certificate. Mr Hamic was a Reservist!!!! not even an active Reservist, he drilled one weekend a month for five years and out of that five years, two of them was ROTC in High School. He wasn't even hurt while drilling for the ARMY, he was in a car wreck!!!!!!!!! how does this man get this designation?

Bogus Lawsuit filled Against Legit Security Inc.

We have looked into this story and found that Rob Hamic is maliciously attacking Legit Security AGAIN! There is absolute proof that all employees have been paid. A meeting with the plaintiffs attorney provided these facts. Anyone can file a lawsuit for 120 bucks! Just ask Hamic, he is party to 58 of them!
THIS LAWSUIT IS BOGUS. But you won't hear Hamic saying that. Why? It doesn't benefit him to tell the truth. Sorry Hamcock terrible story!

New Mexico Security Blog aka Rob Hamic

Denial (not the one pictured above) is the psychological process by which human beings protect themselves from things which threaten them by blocking knowledge of those things from their awareness. It is a defense which distorts reality; it keeps us from feeling the pain and uncomfortable truth about things we do not want to face. If we cannot feel or see the consequences of our actions, then everything is fine and we can continue to live without making any changes.
The Rob "Blog" is trying to blame his unethical and maybe criminal conduct with a disclaimer stating:
"I just noticed something."
"The NM Security Blog has taken on several authors who write and introduce video, audio and other evidence. Each author is not identified by name on the blog post unless they sign their name somewhere on the post. Some do and some don't.I think some of these anonymous blogs and their publishers think that it has just been me supporting this blog. I don't have the time anymore and I took offers from a number of industry professionals and others to help out. In addition, many others donate their time and energy to gather information or conduct surveillance. These people are paid nothing and they do this work because of their own convictions. I do get hundreds of e-mails from concerned people on a weekly basis and I try to answer each one myself."

Don't fall for this we have prof that Rob has posted these videos and statements. Have you ever heard of computer froensics? When he sends treatening emails, phone calls, has his not so private and I use this term loosely "Investigators", harrass people and companies tring to just do their best and make a living. That is just lowlife tactictics!
We know about his conversations telling him not to name certain people by name and use certain companies names on HIS blog.

DHS Takes Multi-Band Radio Pilot to the Field

Wouldn't it be great to have a radio that supports all bands used by first responders in a given area?
The DHS is currently working toward that goal -- lending a hand in developing what would become the first multi-band radio designed specifically for first responders. In order to complete its research, responders from various agencies across the U.S. are being involved in the process.
Last month, the department's Science and Technology Directorate announced the selection of 14 agencies for the final phase of its multi-band radio project.
Each agency will take part in the pilot program for a minimum of 30 days beginning this fall.
"We have been going out to people who are on the front line and ask them what they need to make their jobs better and interoperable communications always comes up," DHS S&T spokesman John Verrico said.
"The problem is there are only so many frequency bands available. As the bands get full, we open new ones. We've got a bunch of different frequencies; some analog, some digital. The various agencies responding can't necessarily speak each other."
In February at the International Wireless Communications Expo in Las Vegas, the project was announced, along with the unveiling of the radio that would be tested -- the Liberty radio by the Clarksburg, Md.-based Thales Group.
DHS also awarded the company a grant to further develop the radio, which Thales spokeswoman Sheila Gindes said was previously entirely privately funded.
"We wanted this thing to be the same size and weight as the current radio," Verrico said. "We didn't want it to cost more than what is out there currently on the high end. It also had to be able to communicate in multiple frequencies."
He said other companies that were developing multi band radios were considered, but that the Liberty was the closest to what it needed. The radio covers analog and digital signals and supports all bands used by public safety including 135-174 MHz, 380-520 MHz, 700 MHz and 800 MHz.
According to Gindes, the Liberty is the first multi-band radio covering the entire public safety sector to receive FCC approval.
The company is currently taking orders for the device, but production is being limited to only the pilot program. Commercial production is set to begin early next year.
Since the partnership was announced, the radio has been tested at several events including the Presidential Inauguration, Kentucky Derby and the 2009 Super Bowl in Tampa, Fla.
Verrico said that while at the Super Bowl, he observed the need firsthand for a multi-band radio at large-scale events where various agencies are involved. He said he saw some responders carrying as many as eight radios at one time.
"Now we're getting into focusing on less event-specific usage and more on everyday usage," he said. "There are various organizations at different altitudes and different climates so we will get a really good idea about how these things work when they are really put to use."
Verrico said that while a multi-band radios will improve emergency communications as a whole, the goal isn't to completely overall the current system.
"I don't see any way to replace the infrastructure already out there," he said.
He also noted that the radios wouldn't be given to every first responder, but to only those in command.
"We're very excited to get to this point. This is a game changer and will really make a difference for responders in the field."

Why we don't Shoot

"I'm not going to get myself into a jam. If they don't want aggressive cops, I'm willing to spend my twenty just showing up when I'm supposed to and not making any waves while I'm there."
That was from a cop who spoke with me confidentially during one of the breaks from a recent training session.

The unwritten use of force policy

As much as I tried to counsel him about the need to do the right thing, he was adamant about giving the bosses what they wanted. Unfortunately, I've heard this same rhetoric from a number of cops, and quite frankly, it disturbs me.
I wrote about this situation September 2006 in an article for Officer.com entitled, Your Personal Deadly Force Policy (linked below). I discussed the fact that each of us work from two different sets of guidelines, the first being your agency's deadly force policy, the second, and oft times the stronger of the two, is your own belief system. What you deem to be right or wrong, moral or not, ethical and fair - in other words your own personal deadly force policy (think... What would it take for me to shoot someone?). Sometimes there is a huge chasm between the two policies, causing conflict, which in turn affects our response time. That endangers not only us, but our partners and the people whom we are sworn to protect.
But let me posit this theory: I submit that we operate on the street each day juggling three deadly force policies - that's right - three. The first one is our agency's official/written policy, the second is our own deadly force policy, and the third, is our agency's unwritten use of force policy. Think about the implications... many of us are handcuffed by the need to have to think about consequences before we ever take any action. This certainly has an adverse impact on our performance and can lead to a poor or possibly deadly outcome.
What is an unwritten use of force policy? It starts at the street level. We either hear about, or know someone, who got caught sideways in a situation where he was ostensibly correct in his actions, but wound up taking some type of heat as a result. It could include anything from being saddled with a bad reputation (either among the bosses or street guys, or both) to administrative or criminal charges being placed. Remember, the charges need not be proven. The fact that they were lodged is enough.
The next level is the supervisory one. We've all seen bosses who constantly advise their troops not to be too aggressive, i.e., don't pull your weapons if you don't have to, don't be overly assertive. If you hear that kind of garbage every day, pretty soon you get worn down and tend to heed your supervisors' words. You find it easier to coalesce with them than to constantly be reminded or perhaps even written up.
Finally, the administration is the last level where we're influenced and become inculcated to the unwritten use of force policy. We see our brass at press conferences or at community meetings, abdicating our police responsibilities in order to assuage the squeaky wheels. In a sense, the leaders of the department are facing a deadly force situation of their own, albeit the weapon they face is public opinion, rather than an actual gun. When confronted by activists or media, do they shoot, or turn and run? Sadly, we see many of them choosing the latter. When we watch the news or read the paper and discover that our bosses have suddenly morphed into spineless caricatures of themselves, it doesn't take much for us to lose confidence. Pretty soon we find that many of our colleagues adopt the same mindset as the brass, and bit by bit we lose power, as well as the tools that will help us maintain control of our assigned areas.
For example, I've seen the shotguns go from the front seat, to the trunk, to the sergeants' trunk, and finally back to the station. Tasers have been issued only to be taken away when a complaint is lodged, or the news picks up a loud-mouthed Tasered subject and runs with the sob story. The template is always the same - innocent honor student who's never been in trouble... blah, blah, blah. In some instances, Tasers are placed in sector cars. That makes quick deployment impossible. Other times the decision to use a Taser on one's duty belt becomes a group decision - the officer must clear it with a supervisor before deploying it. It all flies in the face of common sense and practical police procedure. Our goal as cops should be to streamline protocol, not add to it.
But this third use of force policy, this unwritten rule forged by bosses too scared to stand up to outside forces such as the media and/or city fathers, seems to be taking precedence over the other two. If you have to patrol and not only look out for what the bad guys might do to you, but also your own bosses, it becomes an exercise in futility. What's the sense of even trying?
Yet we know that many of us are warriors at heart. We only know one way to do our job and that's one hundred percent. We've adopted the ideology expressed in the famous quote from Admiral Farragut during the Civil War, Damn the torpedoes, full steam ahead! We do the job in spite of the obstacles placed in our way. We are focused; we are dedicated. Our strength lies in the righteousness of our actions. With St. Michael leading us and God watching from above, we will be victorious.

US Terror Arrest Spur Warning to Police...

WASHINGTON — Antiterrorism officials are increasingly concerned about American-bred extremists who travel abroad for terror training and then return home, sometimes quietly recruiting followers over the years.
Federal authorities have issued a bulletin to law enforcement agencies around the country on the heels of the arrest Monday in North Carolina of a man whose devotion to the cause of violent jihad allegedly began 20 years ago.
The internal bulletin — reviewed by The Associated Press — says the FBI and the Homeland Security Department are very worried about the danger posed by little-noticed Americans traveling abroad to learn terrorism techniques, then coming back to the United States, where they may be dormant for long periods of time while they look for followers to recruit for future attacks.
On Monday, the FBI arrested Daniel Patrick Boyd, 39, charging he was the ringleader of a group of aspiring international terrorists.
The charges "underscore our ongoing concerns about individuals returning to the United States after training or fighting on behalf of extremists overseas," said Justice Department spokesman Richard Kolko.
"As a general matter, such individuals may be in a unique position to solicit others in the U.S. to follow their example, given their combat experience, their network of overseas contacts and their credibility among young radicals seeking an authority figure," Kolko said.
Six other suspects — including Boyd's two sons — were also charged in what prosecutors say was a long-running conspiracy to train for violence and then fight overseas.
Boyd's wife, Sabrina, said in a statement Tuesday that the charges are unsubstantiated.
"We are an ordinary family," she said. "We are decent people who care about other human beings."
The internal terrorism bulletin says Boyd is part of what investigators believe is an unsettling trend of Americans attracted to terrorist groups.
Often, such individuals are what officials call "self-recruiting," using only an Internet connection to plug into a network of like-minded people who help point them toward militant groups.
Just a week ago, federal prosecutors revealed they had in custody an American, Bryant Neal Vinas, who was raised on Long Island, N.Y., converted to Islam and traveled to Pakistan and Afghanistan to train alongside senior al-Qaida operatives.
And on Monday, a Virginia man was sentenced to life in prison for joining al-Qaida and plotting to assassinate then-President George W. Bush. Authorities say he joined al-Qaida while attending college in Saudi Arabia.
The police bulletin, issued the evening after Boyd's arrest in North Carolina, also cites a case of what authorities say were aspiring terrorists in Oregon. In that case, prosecutors won a conviction of a man for trying to set up a terror training camp in 1999 in Bly, Ore.
Boyd and the others arrested Monday are not charged with planning attacks in the United States. Prosecutors say the seven men repeatedly traveled overseas hoping to engage in violence, and trained in military tactics at a private property in North Carolina.
The Boyds lived at an unassuming lakeside home in a rural area south of Raleigh and had a family-operated drywall business.
In 1991, Boyd and his brother were convicted of bank robbery in Pakistan. They were also accused of carrying identification showing they belonged to the radical Afghan guerrilla group, Hezb-e-Islami, or Party of Islam. Each was sentenced to have a foot and a hand cut off for the robbery, but the decision was later overturned.
Their wives told The Associated Press in an interview at the time that the couples had U.S. roots but the United States was a country of "kafirs" — Arabic for heathens.
Sabrina Boyd said in her statement that her husband was in Afghanistan fighting against the Soviet Union "with the full backing of the United States government."

Officer Stabbed While on his morning Run!

Two suspects are on the run Wednesday after stabbing an off-duty Bosque Farms officer on his morning run.
The officer, 36-year-old John Valdez, was on his cooled walk after his jog at about 8 Wednesday morning. He says a car drove up behind him and a passenger attacked.
Police say an early 2000s model Chevy Impala pulled up behind the officer and the passenger leaned out the window and stuck a shank-like object with a screwdriver handle into the officer's back.
Valdez was left lying along the road, but he was alert enough to get a description and call it in, says Bosque Farms Police Chief Joe Stidham.
"He was heads up enough to get a great description, in my opinion, for having just been stabbed in the back with an object, not knowing what's going on. You're on the side of the road on a ditch bank by yourself. He got a great description that he was able to pass along to us," he said.
The chief says Valdez was also smart enough not to pull the weapon out of his back.
Stidham says he was on his way to the office when he got the call.
"I didn't know the severity of the injury, just that he'd been stabbed with some type of blunt object, so I was just trying to get back to the hospital as fast as I could," he said.
The suspects' Impala is painted in a black primer. It has tinted windows and temporary tags.
The suspects are described as Hispanic males with shaved heads. The suspected stabber has a "13" tattooed on the back of his head.
Police say different gangs use the number 13 and it is not clear which gang the suspect may belong to.
State police combed the area for witnesses. They also used a helicopter to search the area.
"We're going to work with probation and parole, we're going to work with the gang task force to see if we can identify who the passenger was, possibly link him to the driver and the vehicle," said Lt. Eric Garcia of the New Mexico State Police.
Police say Valdez wasn't wearing anything that would identify him as a cop, so it isn't clear if he was targeted or this was a random act of violence.
Valdez was taken to UNM Hospital with the weapon still in his back. He was listed in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

Sergeant Joe Harris was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a burglary suspect along New Mexico 126 at approximately 4:30 am. He and another deputy were conducting a stakeout due to a rash of recent cabin burglaries in the area.The deputies attempted to take the man into custody when they observed him breaking into a home. Sergeant Harris and the suspect were both fatally wounded in the ensuing shootout.Sergeant Harris had served with the agency for six years and had previously retired from the Rio Rancho Police Department after 20 years of service. He is survived by his wife, daughter and two sons.

Although some features of narcissistic personality disorder may seem like having confidence or strong self-esteem, it's not the same. Narcissistic personality disorder crosses the border of healthy confidence and self-esteem into thinking so highly of yourself that you put yourself on a pedestal. In contrast, people who have healthy confidence and self-esteem don't value themselves more than they value others.
When you have narcissistic personality disorder, you may come across as conceited, boastful or pretentious. You often monopolize conversations. You may belittle or look down on people you perceive as inferior. You may have a sense of entitlement. And when you don't receive the special treatment to which you feel entitled, you may become very impatient or angry. You may also seek out others you think have the same special talents, power and qualities — people you see as equals. You may insist on having "the best" of everything — the best car, athletic club, medical care or social circles, for instance.
But underneath all this grandiosity often lies a very fragile self-esteem. You have trouble handling anything that may be perceived as criticism. You may have a sense of secret shame and humiliation. And in order to make yourself feel better, you may react with rage or contempt and efforts to belittle the other person to make yourself appear better.

Crime Prevention for Restaurants
Restaurants are particularly vulnerable to robbery, burglary and theft. It is normal for restaurants
to accumulate a large amount of cash on-site. They can be attractive targets of criminal activity.
The following information is provided to serve as a frame of reference for the restaurant industry:
· Eating and drinking establishments comprise the largest segment of the retail industry.
· One out of three adults eats in a restaurant on a typical day.
· Over nine million people are employed in the food service industry in the United States.
· One out of four retail business locations is an eating and/or drinking establishment.
Restaurant Risks and Vulnerabilities
· Armed Robberies
ü Armed robberies offer a great opportunity for injury or death.
ü Current and former employees and their friends are often involved.
ü The most vulnerable times for an armed robbery are during opening and closing
periods.
ü Cash in the restaurant should be kept to a minimum.
ü No one, either hourly employee or manager, should be allowed to be alone in the
restaurant.
ü Employees should enter and leave utilizing the “buddy system.”
- When opening, one enters and checks for security-related problems.
- The other employee waits outside until they receive an “all clear” signal.
- When closing, one employee should exit the restaurant, proceed to his/her motor
vehicle and drive around the restaurant to look for any security concerns.
- If no problems are observed by the first exiting employee, an “all clear” signal
should be given before others leave the restaurant under the observation of the
first employee.
- If problems occur during either opening or closing procedures, one employee
should always be in a position to go for help or call for help.
· Employee Theft
Employee theft is the most frequent criminal event in a restaurant.
Employees have the greatest opportunity to steal because they have access to the
assets and are familiar with the operation of the restaurant.
Many restaurant operators place too much trust (described as “irresponsible trust”) in
those individuals responsible for cash and inventory.
One of the most frequent methods of employee theft of cash is by manipulating sales
transactions.
Other means of employee theft include misuse of coupons, gift certificates,
complimentary passes and credit cards.
· Violence

Incidents of violence can involve both customers and employees. They may range
from verbal threats to use of fists, knives or guns by both men and women.
Violence can be the result of street gang and drug activity both inside the restaurant
and in the parking lot.
The presence of a manager in the dining room/service area has been found to be
effective in defusing and preventing potential acts of violence. Violent acts are more
likely to develop and escalate when no one in authority is present.
· Burglaries
Burglars are usually after money and the inventory.
Intrusion detection alarm systems should be installed in restaurants to deter burglars.
Elements of a Comprehensive Restaurant Crime Prevention Program
· Honesty Policy
Every restaurant, regardless of size and complexity, should have a simple honesty
policy applicable to all employees that states clearly and briefly that theft or
conversion of any restaurant asset is unacceptable.
Some members of today’s workforce believe that unless it is in writing, certain
behavior such as theft is acceptable and not subject to punishment.
Employees should sign the honesty policy that they understand it and will comply
with it.
· Prosecution Policy – Prosecution for all crimes in the restaurant should be fairly and
consistently pursued.
· Loss Reporting – All losses due to criminal activity should be reported and properly
investigated.
· Employee Screening
Many restaurant employees are nomadic by nature.
Employment screening procedures should include the conduct of reference checks
with previous employers.
Criminal and credit checks should be conducted on any employee with access to the
safe or keys to the building.
Employers can be held legally responsible for the violent crimes by employees
negligently hired.
· Training
Honesty and prosecution policy
Robbery prevention and response procedures
Operation of security systems and equipment
· Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)
All nooks and crannies (hiding places) on the exterior of the restaurant should be
eliminated.

Landscaping and plant growth within 4 feet of exterior walkways and doors should
be no more than 3 foot in height.
Trees should be trimmed at a height of no less than 6 feet from the ground to the
lowest foliage.
Outdoor pay telephones should be eliminated.
Exterior lighting should be no less than five (5) footcandles.
The restaurant property should be identified and enclosed with a 3’-4’ high wrought
iron fence, if possible.
Closed-circuit television cameras may be used to monitor parking lots and other
exterior areas.
Exterior motion detection lighting systems should be employed.
Exterior trash or waste containers should be located in a locked enclosure normally
accessible only from the inside of the restaurant.
Parking lots should have speed bumps or ripple bumps.
· Physical Security
Restaurants should have electronic alarm systems.
- Preventive maintenance (PM) of electronic alarm systems is vital
- Electronic alarm system components will periodically need to be replaced and
updated.
- Restaurant electronic alarm systems should be centrally monitored.
- Key restaurant staff need special training in disabling and activation procedures.
CCTV
- Place monitors near cash registers
- Allow customers to see it is in use
- Video recorder should be out of sight.
- Among the exterior areas that may be monitored by CCTV cameras are the
loading/receiving area, trash disposal area and exterior doors.
- CCTV systems need preventive maintenance (PM)
- Appropriate restaurant staff should be trained in the use and employment of
CCTV systems.
Freezers and Coolers
- May serve as safe rooms
- Should be capable of being unlocked from the inside
- Should have an alarm or communication device inside the freezer and cooler
Restrooms
- Should not have dropped ceilings - could be used by “stay-behinds”
- Stalls should be checked before closing
Exterior Doors
- All solid exterior doors should have through-the-door viewers.

- The rear door leading to the trash or waste containers should have a buzzer to
request re-entry. These doors should never be propped open.
Drive Through Windows
- Should be equipped with pull-down “bandit barrier” with bullet resistant glazing.
Roof Access
- Any roof access to the restaurant should be locked on the inside of the building.
- Exterior ladders on the side of the building should not provide access to the
restaurant roof.
Safe Management
- The combination to a restaurant safe should be changed every time an employee
with access to the combination terminates or is terminated.
- Never hide a safe combination in proximity to the safe.
- Always scramble combinations upon closure of a safe.
- Wheels should be removed from safes.

Sgt. Andrew F. "Andy" Tingwall

Sgt. Andrew F. "Andy" Tingwall served with the New Mexico State Police since 1995 and graduated with the 56th New Mexico State Police Recruit School. His first post was District 6 in Gallup, NM. In 1998 he was moved to the Training and Recruiting Division at the New Mexico Law Enforcement Acadamy. Sgt. Tingwall spent five years at the Academy where he was the lead instructor for the Recruit School. During his time at the Academy, Sgt. Tingwall was part of the NMSP Tactical Team for five years as an entry man. Sgt. Tingwall was transferred to the New Mexico State Police Aircraft Section in 2003, where he logged 1,300 hours flying time as a pilot. In 2008 he was named the Chief Pilot of this Section.
Sgt. Tingwall was named 2008 Officer of the Year in March 2009 by the New Mexico Sheriffs and Police Association for his lifesaving efforts in an August 2008 arroyo rescue of an Albuquerque man. He was to be honored by his fellow state police officers this month with a Medal of Valor for the same incident.
Sgt. Tingwall is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Prayers For the NMSP Officers and Families

SANTA FE, N.M. -- Rescuers on foot battled snow and strong wind Wednesday to reach a New Mexico State Police helicopter carrying three people that went missing after the pilot radioed that he hit the side of the mountain, officials said.
One of the three was found alive after hiking from the wrecked chopper, but the fate of the other two was uncertain because the wreckage still had not been located.
The pilot reported trouble in his last radio transmission Tuesday night after it picked up a lost hiker on the 12,000-foot Santa Fe Baldy.
The three were identified as pilot Andy Tingwall, spotter Wesley Cox -- the one found Wednesday -- and rescued hiker Neugumi Yamamoto.
Cox, a patrolman, was suffering from hypothermia when he was found Wednesday afternoon by a a National Guard Black Hawk helicopter. He was airlifted to a hospital in Santa Fe.
Visibility was poor near the top of the mountain, which about 15 miles northeast of Santa Fe, state Department of Public Safety spokesman Peter Olson said.
Just before noon, the official NMDPS Twitter page said that weather was breaking -- enough to allow choppers into the area. It later updated with the discovery of Cox and said it "does not look good for others."
Olson said that when a dispatcher asked the pilot whether the three aboard were all right after the crash, the pilot had responded: "Not really."
He said the hiker was with her boyfriend on the mountain but they became separated, and she used her cell phone to call for help Tuesday evening.
Olson, who has hiked Santa Fe Baldy, said the trip to the top is arduous and said the helicopter was in an area with "very rugged terrain."

The PSYCHOLOGY OF INTERNET BASHING

The Institute of Forensic Psychology of the University of Applied Science of Aspen did a research on the fast growing phenomena of so called Internet-Bashing.
Internet-Bashing is a new way of anonymously personally insulting mainly prominent persons by questioning their work as well as their personality on the internet. Internet-Bashing - the new hype in Anglo-Saxon internet culture. The study was based on Internet-Bashing on German director Uwe Boll. The American medical journal "NEW PSYCHOLOGY POST" talked to Dr. Ann-Rose Kahn, in charge of the study and its results.

NEW PSYCHOLOGY POST: Your research was based on which method?Dr. Ann-Rose Kahn: We started to analyze qualitatively and quantitavely. In the beginning the texts were analyzed on the statistical frequency of certain words, word groups and word forms. What mainly interested us was to learn how big the used variety and vocabulary of certain words was. We soon learned it was not very big, it repeated itself constantly.

NEW PSYCHOLOGY POST: Does that mean the average internet-basher has a low IQ?Dr. Ann-Rose Kahn: No, on the contrary. The quality analyze of the texts showed that the average internet-basher has an average IQ, can communicate intellectually but is not using this ability or is unable to use it. The average internet-basher has a higher than average level of education but is limited to use and communicate the learned skills. The very intense and concentrated use of superlatives or negative connotations is very interesting too. Those are typical indices for strong deficits in self-esteem. It also underlines the fact that these persons take their time to bash on such an intense and very emotional level with one single person. They try to create closeness to the person they bash on. This is, of course, artificial. None of them has a real contact to the people they bash on.

NEW PSYCHOLOGY POST: Mr. Boll is famous for adapting video games for the big screen. So those are persons that hate him for doing so?Dr. Ann-Rose Kahn: That does not explain the level and the intensity that is used in the Internet-Bashing towards Mr. Boll. It was the trigger to begin with, but is definitely not what is motivating these anonymous persons to continue. The very distinctive usage of swearwords as well as negative superlatives underlines how helpless these people are in real life. They are typical victims in their own created internet world. They compensate their own inability of dealing with themselves and concentrate their emotions on prominent persons. This can create sort of a domino effect: Finding others who jump on this too is creating an artificial union, a made up family on the net. Chat rooms and internet boards deliver a perfect meeting place for such individuals. It is about getting attention, being noticed, being someone one cannot be outside the home.NEW PSYCHOLOGY POST: Any further noticeable cognitions in your research?Dr. Ann-Rose Kahn: Yes, it stands out that homoerotic intensions/feelings seem to play a huge part in this new internet phenomenon. The very high level of very concrete sexual connotations is a clear hint for that. So far Internet-Bashing is a mainly male dominated phenomenon. NEW PSYCHOLOGY POST: Is there something like a "TYPICAL" Internet-Basher?Dr. Ann-Rose Kahn: Surprisingly, yes. The average Internet-Basher is male, single, between 20 – 30 years old. He has a low social competence, lives on the net. He has a strong homoerotic intention which he is unable to live out and distinctive inferiority complex. Most of these men still live at their parent’s home or close to it.

If you are in or have a business, it is essential to protect your reputation on and offline, unfortunately there are a lot of people out there who go around attacking those who disagree with them politically, or who are competitors or people they have a beef with. The problems that are caused with online slander are quite literally out of control.
When 'flamers' slander your name online and hide in the shadows under false and fake identities, they have the ability to become a lone Internet terrorist. Essentially it is a form of intimidation, social threats and personal online terrorism.
But, you can fight back by finding out who owns the websites, which are allowing posts, comments, blogs or forums that are allowing this. Next, you can write a legal letter to them to have them remove such information and lies about you. You can also request them to disclose the person or person's real identity of those which are causing these problems. They don't have to comply with your request but you can ask.
Once, you have found out who is posting this slander you can sue them in a court of law. Can you win such a lawsuit? Sometimes you can, in fact you may be able to show intent to slander and show that the individual knew they were posting lies to harm you. In this case you can prevent them from doing this and collect your money.
Each time someone fights back it puts up a notice to others online, that there will be consequences for starting false rumors or using the Internet as a tool of social terrorism or personal character attacks and slander. My next post will tell you how you can monitor for such slander online and catch any flaming of your company name as soon as it is posted.

From your necessities to luxuries, you can stretch your dollar and save money for additional spending or the future.

By turning your thermostat down a few degrees in the winter or cutting back on air conditioning during the summer, you can reduce your energy bill. You can also save money on your utility bills by turning off electrical items such as lights and computers and reducing your water consumption by taking shorter showers and turning off the water while you brush your teeth.

Maintain your car properly. If you have to commute to work or travel for work, the cost of tires and gasoline can eat into your budget. You can stretch a dollar by ensuring that your tires are inflated properly, cleaning your air filter regularly and replacing oil as needed. All of this will help maximize the lifetime of your car.
